About Allstate and the Internship

I am currently working at Allstate which is the second largest insurance company in the United States. Something that people do not usually know is that Allstate really started in 1925 and was a product within Sears. Allstate didn’t actually become an official insurance agency until the 1950s and now the company is ranked as 93 among Fortune 100. Prior to accepting the internship I really had no idea how the insurance business ran and wanted to do the internship program because I believed that it was a good way of providing a necessary service to the public. When I entered the internship program though I had no idea exactly what I was going to do for them and how much I was going to learn.
First day I enter the internship program, Allstate already had a plan on how I was going to spend my time and what I was going to be doing. The first week I was able to do work with support, which is how all the mail and all the information got delivered to everyone. After I worked support for a day, Allstate had me shadowing every person that was in every department for about a week. After that week was complete I worked in autos “Good Hands Repair Network,” which focuses on cost management and works directly with vendors. Next, I worked in casualty where I gathered information among represented and unrepresented individuals’ to gather data that pertained to the claim. Finally, I worked in property where I was able to excel and learn a lot from. In property, I focused on customer service and satisfaction. I worked directly with the customer and had an opportunity to be exposed to a lot of different types of claims. As of now, I am still interning with Allstate and I am currently switching between property and auto departments.
Overall, the Allstate internship has become more than anyone can ask for in an internship program. The program got me exposed and familiar with every department and had me work every single department. Allstate is definitely a program that I would do my internship under.

  1. Can I ask you a question? I see on the commercials that Allstate now backs Esurance. What is the exact nature of the relationship. Are they now pretty much the same company, with Esurance just being like a cheap off brand? I actually have Esurance, that is the reason I ask.
