For the internship program my typical day varies from
one way to another. Depending on what department I am in I can either be doing
cost management in the morning in the auto department or I can be doing what we
commonly refer to as the “5080” emails in the property department. If I am in
the auto department I start off my day working with checks and vendors, I
verify that the checks are complete and issue them out; however, if the bill
does not line up with the information that we have on the claim we must contact
the vendor in order to discuss which person has the correct estimate. If I am
working in property, I do a lot of gathering information through what we call
the “5080 emails.” The information that I can gather in these claims vary and
usually revolve around estimates, additional living expenses, photos regarding
the claim (some photos can be pretty interesting) and any legal documentation
that can regard the claim. Sometime between working those claims, I usually ask
my supervisor at the time if they have any special projects that they would
like me to work on. The special projects can vary from something like
contacting an individual or it can be adding up the additional cost of living
expenses. Overall though, there is really no “typical” day at Allstate, but
every day is a new adventure and something to learn from.
