Career Service Write Up: Career Fiesta

So the other day I went to the career fiesta to look at some companies. The top companies that I was looking for were Geico, Progressive, Allstate, Teach for America, Vanguard, and Arizona Department of Economic Security. I know these careers are drastically different from each other, but they are both careers that intrigue me. The MU career fair is huge and has tons of great name companies that hire there.

While I wasn’t looking for a new job, I still wanted to go out and throw my name out there to the select companies. As of now I feel pretty set with Allstate, however, my mother always told me to cover my back and she suggested going to the career fair. I did and found that all the companies there are extremely interesting. Vanguard is looking for a client relation specialist. Gieco is looking into hiring people for their management development program (MDP). Progressive is looking for another internship job. Teach for America is looking to hire teachers and progress theme through into educational policy. The Arizona Department of Economic Security is looking to hire a multitude of positions and finally Allstate is looking for an associate regional sales manager.

I found the events at the career fair to be extremely helpful. I was able to look into all the careers I was interested in and I was able to look at the positions available in them. If I were given the opportunity to go to the career fair again I would go again. The career fair is definitely a good choice for everyone to look into and it really gives you good insight on what each job position requires.

  1. I like the variety! Always keep your options open, but when you young especially I'd suggest working in the public sector over anything else, it changes your perspective on many things and it truly is the jungle. If you can make it in public service, ethically and efficiently, you can make it anywhere.

  2. It is definitely beneficial that ASU offers career fairs on campus and it seems that you were able to draw some value from attending. However, I have found that career fairs tend to be less applicable the more refined or specific your degree of study is. When I was in undergrad, I only attended on career fair that was actually related to Urban Planning, and thus, these events were not that useful to me. But I agree with you, in that it is useful to know what's out there and what these organizations are looking for in new hires.
